Vietnam Bouldering Cup Rules
QUALIFICATIONS RULES
- Registration and Scorecard
- Competitors must register and receive a scorecard before competing.
- Submitting Scorecard
- Competitors must submit their scorecard to the judge and join the queue before attempting a problem.
- Climbing Time
- Each time a competitor queues, they are allowed one attempt.
- The maximum duration for an attempt is 3 minutes.
- Competitors must be ready with their climbing shoes on when their turn comes.
- Counting Attempts
- All attempts will be counted towards the final score.
- In the event of a tie, the number of attempts will determine the ranking for topped problems, with fewer attempts ranking higher.
- Point System
- Each problem is assigned a point value based on its difficulty level.
- Counting Scores
- The 6 highest-scored problems will count towards the competitor's final score.
- Qualifying for Finals
- The top 6 competitors will advance to the final round.
- Ties:
- If a tie occurs at positions 1st to 5th, the 6th position competitor will not qualify.
- If a tie occurs for 6th place, all competitors in 6th place will qualify.
- Climbing Rules
- Climbers must start with both feet off the ground and have two points of hand contact (either two hands on one grip or one hand on each grip).
- No touching of grips or volumes other than the designated start before beginning the climb.
- Invalid starts (e.g., touching grips not allowed) will count as an attempt, and climbers will be asked to restart.
- Climbers may not use wall holes, or the top or bottom of the wall for assistance during the climb.
- Category Adjustments
- Competitors may select their category (Novice / Intermediate / Open).
- However, if a competitor's score exceeds 50% of the next category's field, they will be moved up for results.
- Example: If an Intermediate competitor's score ranks higher than 11th out of 20 Open participants, they will be reclassified into the Open category.
FINAL ROUND RULES
- Competitors
- Intermediate Category: Two females and two males compete simultaneously.
- Open Category: One female and one male compete simultaneously.
- Order of Climbers
- Climbers will compete in reverse qualification order (from lowest to highest rank).
- Pre-Visualization
- Competitors in each category will have 1 minute per problem for pre-visualization before climbing begins.
- Category Order
- The Intermediate category will compete first, followed by the Open category.
- Climbing Time
- Each climber has 4 minutes to attempt one problem before returning to isolation.
- Zone Holds
- Each problem includes two zone holds.
- Climbers must hold or touch the zone with one hand in control.
- A slap or uncontrolled contact will not count.
- Topping Out
- Climbers must top out by touching the designated top area or hold with both hands in control.
- Swinging or instability will require regaining balance before the top is validated by the judge.
- Ranking Criteria
- Climbers will be ranked based on the following, in order:
- Number of tops.
- Number of zones.
- Attempts to top.
- Attempts to zone.
- Total points earned during qualifications.
- If ties persist after all criteria are applied, tied climbers will share the podium.
