1. General Wall & Route Etiquette

  • Boundaries: Areas behind black tape are strictly out of bounds.
  • Prohibited Features: Use of bolt holes (T-nuts) on the wall or volumes is strictly prohibited.
  • Down-climbing: Holds circled in yellow tape are for descent only. They may not be used as part of a boulder problem.
  • Technical Incidents: Touching any hold not marked as a "start" while your feet are still on the ground may result in a formal warning, an attempt being counted, or disqualification at the judge's discretion.

2. Establishing the Start

  • Start Tags: Four tags indicate the required limb placement (2 hands, 2 feet). Only tagged grips or volumes may be used to establish the start.
  • Volumes: Multiple volumes touching each other are considered a single feature.
  • Wall Surface: The wall surface may be used to establish the start if available and within boundary lines.
  • Stability: The climber must be off the ground and stable (showing control) before making the next move.

3. Completing a Problem (The Top)

  • Control: The final hold or "Top" must be held with control.
  • Judge Validation: Control must be maintained until the judge signals validity.
  • Invalidation: If a climber drops down or grabs the top edge of the wall before the judge’s signal, the "Top" is canceled and recorded as a Fail.

4. Qualification Round

  • Format: 25 problems (Problem 1: Easiest; Problem 25: Hardest).
  • Scoring System: * Each problem is worth 1,000 points.
    • Calculation: Total points per problem are divided by the number of successful tops (1,000/n).
    • Novice Category: Scoring is isolated; 1,000 points are divided only by the number of Novice climbers who top that specific problem.
  • Final Score: Sum of points from all completed problems.
  • Tie-Breaking: If points are equal, the climber with the least total attempts on their successful tops wins.

5. Finalist Selection

  • OPEN Category: Top 6 climbers proceed to Finals.
  • Intermediate Category: 5 climbers proceed to Finals.
  • The Threshold: Intermediate finalists are selected based on a point threshold determined by the total number of event participants.
  • Classification: Finalists are chosen based on performance regardless of their self-selected registration category (excluding Novice).

6. Final Rounds

Intermediate Finals

  • Problems: 3
  • Format: 4 minutes "On" (climbing) / 4 minutes "Off" (rest).

OPEN Finals

  • Problems: 4
  • Format: 4 minutes per problem. After each problem, the climber returns to Isolation to await their turn for the next problem.

7. Final Round Ranking (Priority Order)

Rank is determined by the following hierarchy:

  1. Total Tops: Most problems completed.
  2. Total Zones: Most zones reached and held with one hand in a controlled manner.
  3. Attempts to Top: Fewest attempts used to reach Tops.
  4. Attempts to Zone: Fewest attempts used to reach Zones.
  5. Qualifier Points: Points carried over from the qualification round.
  6. Qualifier Attempts: Total attempts recorded during qualifications.
