09/2011: Quoc Oai Dispatch

Northern Wall, Quoc Oai

Tired of the noise of Hanoi? Let’s go climbing in Quoc Oai! Quoc Oai is about 15 km from Hanoi just as the first isolated cliffs and mountains start to rise from the landscape. It’s close enough to Hanoi for a relaxed day-trip. The rocks are situated around a hollow central massif with two entrances and magnificent skylights, allowing shafts of sunlight to enter the large cave that forms its center. There are ponds, rice paddies, gardens, lush vegetation behind the cave and rock. What else do we need?

Notes:
- About 15 sport routes from 4a to 7c (most of them have been equipped with glue-in bolts in 2010). Guidebook under progress. Bouldering is also an option.
- Climbing day-trips in Quoc Oai are usually organized for the members in the weekends. Fees for belaying assistance: 20 USD (10 USD if you have climbing shoes, harness, belaying device and helmet. Free if you are autonomous). Thanks to register at the VietClimb reception.
