DWS at Three Brothers

psicobloc halong bay
Three Brothers’ cliff is located close to a floating village. The village is an amalgamation of fish breeding, kayak rental, tourist overnight accommodation, night karaoke and gambling. You can easily identify the cliff thanks to its shape (looks like a cake).

Floating Village in a glimpse

- Cat Ba to the Floating Village: 1h
- GPS coordinates: WGS 84, 20°46″37.6′ N / 107°04″36.2′ E
- Number of routes: 6+
- Accessible at high tide: 6+
- Grades: 4a -> 6
- Water depth: fine
- Rock quality: good
- Other: this spot is close to Cat Ba and offers many easy routes on a vertical wall. It is a good place to learn when the tide is high. During low tide, the main difficulty is the start because you have to jump out of your kayak to reach the first holds.

    went there on the weekend, and it was fantastic at high tide. easy access to the routes, even out of the water for all except one. and there’s more here, than is indicated above. for example: check out the reddish rock in the middle of the cliff bottom. it allows for a short but cool traverse that moves from maybe Fb4b to Fb6a from left to right; alternatively half traverse, and then ascend using two pretty sharp finger pockets (probably around Fb5b)…
    three metres to the right, there’s another fun boulder problem right out of the water, that involves a heel hook, cross over, slab, dyno… (maybe Fb5a)
    … the place makes for a great couple hours, if you’re a bit creative.

    A good thing about this rock is that it is very close to Cat Ba and quite protected from waves. Last weekend there were a lot of waves, so we couldn t cross over to Mekong or Tien Ong. At three brothers the sea was perfectly calm and good enough to power out yourself during the afternoon. It is good for beginners as it is not so frightening as some of the other DWSs.
